Elementary Education Certification

Despite popular belief, teaching a class of elementary aged children is far for complex than giving them a bunch of homework and teaching them the alphabet. Being an elementary educator takes a lot of discipline, hard work, and perseverance. This often requires endless amounts of hours grading papers, setting up teacher-parent conferences, and planning for the upcoming week. All the while, you are keeping an eye on all of your students and make sure they are behaving as well as learning the material without a problem.

Benefits and Hours

Some of the greatest benefits associated with becoming an elementary educator are being able to take off the summer as well as enjoy your holidays and weekends. In most cases, you'll end up leaving work around four or five o'clock (unless you have tons of papers to grade, etc.). On average, a teacher will work about 600 hours less than the average worker in the United States- and in some cases their salary reflects it. However, there are teachers who are earning tons of money due to their expertise and experience level.

Day on the Job

Being an elementary educator is packed with tons of useful and exciting experiences. You'll build relationships with students, help them learn valuable lessons, and equip them with the attributes needed to take on the world. It really doesn't get much better than that. In some cases, you may have the difficult responsibility of being a role model for your students (since some of them won't have anyone to look up to at home). While this can be a challenging task, it is often rewarding knowing that you are making a positive impact in that child's life. You will help them develop skills like self-expression, self-worth, and other characteristics which will give them confidence to succeed in life. This is done using a variety of different techniques. You will use homework, tests, and other assessments which will gauge you students. This will help you determine where they are at in the knowledge scale so that you can effectively teach them in a way which helps. With a little formal education and on-the-job training, you too can become a member of this vibrant and unique career path. You'll be able to help hundreds if not; thousands of students experience knowledge and better understand the world. That alone is worth more than any paycheck.
